Filament is a creative producing house. We bring together individuals with different skills and perspectives who are interested in nurturing vibrant and distinctive places. We look to find ways to tackle complex questions around identity and social need.
We generate opportunities for artists, place-shapers and community activists to bring ideas into the real. We provide the space for creative enquiry and risk-taking, building trust to find a shared language across different people and the cultures they work within.
We’re interested in multiplicity. Communities are complex, inhabited by diverse groups of people to who all do things differently.
We bring together the skills of practitioners according to what’s needed: of researching, imagining, enabling, facilitating, disrupting, creating, producing and documenting.
Filament grew out of Eyeview Cultural Programme, part of Torbay’s Great Place Scheme led by Torbay Culture. Our team worked with artists and communities across Torbay, developing site-specific commissions, participatory projects and community actions. We saw a need for an agile producing house that could work imaginatively with communities both in Torbay and across the South West to produce impactful work with the independence to flex, experiment and think sideways. So here we are.
